After Ever Happy, the fourth installment in the After teen romance film series is due to be released in 2022. The movies have received mixed reviews but the film franchise is still doing well due to its availability on Netflix in multiple regions at a time.
The After films are based on Anna Todd's novels. They have been heavily criticised for their bad screenplays, and occasionally terrible acting. They are still popular and profitable in most parts of the world, despite this.
In 2022, a fourth film will be released following the previous three movies which were all made annually from 2019 to 2019.
Castille Landon will be returning to direct the fourth entry, while Sharon Soboil returns for writing duties.
The cast of the fourth film will include Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes Tiffin as well as Carter Jenkins, Louise Lombard (Rob Estes), Kiana Madeira and Chance Perdomo.
Filming
The plot guide gives us an idea of what to expect in the fourth film.
“As a shocking truth about a couple’s families emerges, the two lovers discover they are not so different from each other. Tessa is no longer the sweet, simple, good girl she was when she met Hardin — any more than he is the cruel, moody boy she fell so hard for.”
While there’s been no official confirmation (there hasn’t been in advance for previous movies either) we are expecting it to come to Netflix albeit it won’t be a worldwide release.
Voltage Pictures is the actual distributor of this movie, even though it's available via Netflix. Voltage Pictures, a US distributor house.
Only a few regions received After movies in the last two films. These movies were either sold abroad or not available elsewhere.
These regions are likely to be After Ever Happy in 2022 and 2023:
We’re not expecting all regions to receive After Ever Happy at the same time either. For the past two films, we’ve seen Netflix in Asia receive the movie first before hitting the US and Canada much later. After We Fell was received by Netflix USA and Canada significantly later than Asia. The movie arrived in most countries around October 2021, while it took the US until mid-January 2022.
The new film should be available in Asia by 2022, while the US and Canada will have to wait for it in the early 2023.
We’ll keep this post updated as and when learn more as time goes on.
Two of the previous movies were released by Amazon Prime Video at a few locations, including France and Britain. That will once again be the case going into the fourth movie and that’s despite the original movie, After, streaming in the UK as of January 2022.
Prime Video acquired the rights to After We Fell, and After Ever Happy in August 2021.
Beyond a fourth movie, Castille Landon teased there may be other projects in the works telling Variety in August 2021, “I’m working on some other projects in the “After” universe and I’ll keep that vague.”
