Netflix's acquisition streak has continued for the past several months. Beckett was one of their purchases. The thriller is set in Europe and stars John David Washington and Alicia Vikander. Beckett wasn't originally intended to be a streamer. However, COVID-19 enabled Netflix to acquire it in October 2020 so that it can be distributed on their platform.

Beckett was written and directed in part by Ferdinando Cito Filomarino, who also directed Antonia. He won the Gallio Film Festival Award for Antonia. Also, Call Me By Your Name and Suspiria were his second-unit directors. Kevin A. also wrote the script. Rice. Producers for Beckett include Luca Guadagnino and Marco Morabito for their Frenesy Films along with Francesco Melzi d’Eril and Gabriele Moratti for MeMo with Raicinema.

After being revealed in 2019, the film has been in production for some time. The original title of the feature was Born to Be Murdered. However, it was renamed January 2021. Entertainment Weekly reports that Beckett will debut on Netflix Summer 2021. Netflix confirmed this, along with the first glimpse at John David Washington playing the title character.
