With the petition's main signature now exceeding 1.5 million, The Anne with an E campaign for revival continues in 2021. It continues to hold the accolade of being the largest revival campaigns ever in Netflix’s history. Here’s a look back at the campaign to revive Anne with an E and what you can do to help.
Netflix released the final season in January 2020. While it left a lot of material for future seasons, both CBC Canada and Netflix did not renew their subscriptions.
Fans love the Netflix-CBC co-production. It adapts Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic novels and was first released in March 2017. Moira Walley Beckett, showrunner of the series celebrated it's third anniversary by saying these words:
“Anne Nation you are the sweetest! Thank you for remembering that 3 years ago today #AnnEwithanE aired for the very first time. It means so much to me that you remembered and are celebrating it!”
After a successful night at the Canadian Screen Awards, Season 3 of Anne With an E has recently made headlines. It received 17 nominations, including the best lead actress award for Amybeth McNulty as well as best drama series.
There have been several major milestones for the campaign to save Anne with an E so let’s take you through some of the big ones.
One of the first signs that Anne and E were dedicated was the New York Times Square billboard campaign. Fans also spent their money to buy billboards across Canada. Reports also indicated that fans bought billboards from highways across states like Texas.
Moira Walley Becket responded to the campaign effort on Instagram
“I am a writer and words fail. Anne Nation, how can I express how you fill my heart? You have created yet another amazing, unified gesture of love and solidarity. I am humbled and honored by your passion, your zeal, and your steadfast support. Thank you for loving my show as much as I do and for telling the world how you feel.”
The signatures have been collected in the Change.org petition, which was launched on November 25, 2019. Other petitions exist on the Internet, with different success rates. Some have a few thousand signatures while others are in the thousands.
It had one simple purpose.
“Guys we all loved season 3, but there is so much more we need answers to and want to see ! The whole ka’kwet storyline and Anne’s Queen life and obviously how shirbert develops! So let’s hope this petition catches the eye of Netflix and they decide to renew the show for season 4! Anne would want us to fight!”
The petition has achieved many milestones, as we have already mentioned. In June 2020, it reached 600,000. It also passed the 1 million mark on July 25, 2020.

1 million signatures for Anne with an E petition
The campaign had 1.4 million signed signatures as of December 3, 2020, with this number steadily increasing by the hour.
In early 2021, the main petition had more than 1.5 million signatures. There are many other petitions that are also available.
It continues to be a popular series on Twitter. The campaign was trending ONE YEAR WITHOUT A ANNE in November 2020. This coincides with the finale of season 3 in Canada. It is probable that a similar campaign will be planned for the 3rd of January, which was when Netflix released it.
The main petition in 2020 broke the previous record held by Sense8 that scored well over 500,000 signatures before eventually being bought back for a one-off movie special.
Celebrities have signed on to support series renewals. Ryan Reynolds famously called for a renewal saying: “You guys might want to renew Anne with an E. Unless ‘final season is just a fun way of saying ‘halfway point,'”
Fan account Anne has created a link tree page which gives Anne multiple options for getting involved. It involves signing the petition to request the title from Netflix.
Despite cancelling the show, it is possible that Netflix and CBC will reverse their decision, even though this seems unlikely. We’ve seen how campaigns to bring back shows have been in the past and Netflix is always looking to score brownie points with its subscribers.
Anne with an E still has the best chance, according to us. We believe a movie ending is the best way for Anne. However, as we mentioned earlier, it’s unclear whether Netflix could do this by itself or it’d need the blessing and/or involvement of CBC in Canada.
Some cast members have moved on to other projects, some of which are Netflix projects.
Amy McNulty is set to appear in the fourth season of Stranger Things while Kiawentiio Tarbell has been reportedly cast in Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series.
Of course, that’s just speculation right now but we wouldn’t rule out anything at this point.
