In this prequel to "Army of the Dead," a mysterious woman recruits bank teller Dieter to assist in a heist of impossible-to-crack safes across Europe.

Army of Thieves premiered on Netflix in October 2021. After a week it reached the top of global charts at number 10 for the week ended November 5th. This beat out Hypnotic's Halloween release.

Army of Thieves won with 5,964 worldwide points (based upon available countries supplied by FlixPatrol), but Hypnotic came in second place with 4,755 and Army of the Dead placed third with 2831.

We believe this to be the strongest reemergence of an Netflix Original movie at the time of a prequel/sequel release. While we saw To All The Boys return to the top 10, it wasn't as impressive as Army of the Dead's rise in the top 10.

Army of the Dead is a Netflix original that was released May 21st. It was directed by Zack Snyder. Army of Thieves takes place within the same universe as Army of the Dead and is a prequel that tells Dieter's story of being hired for his first major theft with the zombie apocalypse in the background. Dieter appeared also in Army of the Dead. However, sadly (spoiler warning), he did not make it all the way to the end of the movie.

Army of the Dead holds the 9th spot on Netflix's top-watched English movie list (based upon released 2-minute viewing numbers) with 75 million views in just 4 weeks.

Netflix gave Army of the Dead a major boost.

There are many factors that explain why Army of the Dead ranked so high in the Netflix top 10, again.

The most important thing about the films is how they are linked with numerous references in each direction throughout. Many easter eggs are included, including extras that appear in both movies. Also there is a hint towards an upcoming sequel to Army of the Dead. This movie also expands on the Time Loop Theory that was hinted at in the previous film.

Twitter searches reveal that people have been rewatching Army of the Dead in an effort to understand the differences between the movies.

It is important because top 10s tend to be dominated by new and licensed titles. For example, if we take a look at this week’s top 10, you will see almost every film featured in it has been added to Netflix within the last month.

The interconnected universes that are so valuable, although not all have been profitable for Netflix. Altered Carbon and Bright are two recent examples. They did not experience the same sort demise as this one.

Not only the Netflix top 10, but all of them, are seeing an increase in original movies' popularity. MovieMeter's IMDb ranked the movie at 183, up 528 positions from the week prior. Because Army of Thieves was only released two days ago, we expect it to increase further next week.
