Christopher George Latore Wallace, born May 21, 1972, in Brooklyn, New York City. He is best known as The Notorious B.I.G, or Biggie Smalls. Many consider him one of the most influential rappers ever.
Biggie was signed to Bad Boy Records, the record company launched by Sean “Puffy” Combs in 1993. Biggie, who was 21 years old at the time of signing with Bad Bay Records in 1993, was one of the greatest artists of that era.
Biggie's 1994 debut album, Read to Die made him a well-known rapper. This led to his inclusion in the growing feud among East Coast and West Coast rappers.
Unfortunately, as he was recording his second album studio, the hostilities between East and West Coast intensified, particularly between Biggie Shakur and Tupac Shakur. Tragically, Tupac died in an LA drive-by shooting on September 1996. Biggie was also killed six months later when an unidentified assailant committed his crime. Biggie’s second studio album, Life After Death was released two weeks later.
Biggie Smalls was just 24-years old.
Many young rappers have been able to follow his footsteps and become stars. In the time since his passing, Biggie’s album Life After Death reached number one on the Billboard 200, which eventually achieved a Diamond certification in the United States.
