Netflix will remove the entire original Charmed series in entirety on October 1, 2020, in the United States. Here’s why the series could be removed, its history on Netflix and where it could head next if it does leave.
The classic series that aired on The WB back in the day followed a trio of sisters who discover they’re, in fact, powerful sorceresses and become involved with the supernatural.
It aired from 1998 to 2006. The eight-season series had 178 episodes. Netflix US will remove all episodes and season from the series on October 1, 2020.
Although the series was originally added to Netflix US in 2015, it has not been available for streaming since then. However, Netflix USA has apparently ended its five-year contract. It’s worth noting that Netflix USA is currently the only Netflix region carrying the original Charmed series.
Then why does it leave? It all comes down to contracts. Netflix doesn’t own Charmed instead it licenses it from CBS Television Distribution.
There is a chance, of course, that Netflix and CBS could choose to renew the show although the past has shown that’s unlikely to be the case.
The series wasn’t included in the official September 2020 removal list (which lists October 1st removals for September 30th – don’t ask us why) so that could indicate that this isn’t a done deal just yet.
Charmed also wasn’t included in the official list of titles leaving for October 2020 either. The removal date is still visible on the list, despite this.

Originally, we thought ViacomCBS could keep the rights back for its own service but that’s not set to be the case.
We were instead alerted by a Peacock deal that was announced earlier in the year. This deal would have Charmed and other shows to go to ViacomCBS's new streaming service.
Let’s quickly touch on the implications of this on the brand new rebooted Charmed series that began in 2019.
Importantly, this does not impact the rebooted series for at least a few months. The new series falls within The CW's output agreement, which was concluded in 2019, but continues to see shows receive annual updates.
The rebooted series will remain on Netflix as long as new seasons get produced but once the show ends, it’ll then leave Netflix five years after the final season drops onto Netflix.
Currently, we’re expecting season three to arrive at some point in 2021.
