Cobra Kai Season 5 has finished filming according to the show’s showrunner and executive producer, Jon Hurwitz. Season 4 of Cobra Kai will premiere on Netflix December 31, 2021. The conclusion of the fifth season of Cobra Kai is expected to be completed by Jon Hurwitz.
The first announcement of Season 5 for Cobra Kai came on August 27, 2021. Ralpha Macchio thanked fans and said that filming would begin soon.
Reports claim that season 5 production began on September 20, 2021. One of the production listings had noted that production was scheduled to end on December 10th but given we’ve just learned production finished it looks like that date was either wrong or they overrun.
Jon Hurwitz, one of three creators of the series, announced the season five wrapping via a flight with Josh Heald and Josh Heald. They both act as producers and creators on the series.
Fans were puzzled by the message, given that there was no announcement that filming had begun. Jon Hurwitz clarified to a Tweet saying “Finished shooting in Atlanta.”
Even though the story takes place in Los Angeles, Cobra Kai's fifth season was filmed entirely in Atlanta.
In season 5, news William Zabka (Johnny Lawrence), recently stated to Screen Rant on December 17th that season 5 was his favourite season.
“We’re shooting the climax of Season 5 right now after three months of being in the trenches. I’m so wrapped up in what’s going on right now that’s so far down the road from what I’m talking about [in Season 4],”
This brings us to the next question: When will Cobra Kai's fifth season be available on Netflix?
Sadly, it’s too early to tell and just because production has finished, doesn’t mean there isn’t more work to do. Now comes post-production, which involves putting together the audio and editing as well as any VFX. After that, post-production begins. This includes editing, audio, and any VFX work.
Season 4 was filmed well ahead of time but we’re led to believe we could see a summer 2022 release for season 5. The worst-case scenario is a December release.
We can now ask questions about the possibility of the show continuing with the sixth season, after season 5. While the show does seem like it’s got plenty of steam left in it we probably won’t get a renewal (or news surrounding the rumored spinoffs) until after season 4 hits.
