Really, the question should be ‘who is Halston’?
Roy Halston Frowick, an American fashion designer who gained fame in the 1970s and 1980s, was a legend. His style was both comfortable and modern. He created elegant and simple silhouettes using luxurious materials like suede and cashmere. His belief was that fashion shouldn't be too complicated, so women can enjoy all the freedoms of the 1960s without being weighed down by unnecessary frills.
Halston's fast lifestyle and love of hard drugs is also well-known. He was a regular at Studio 54, where he often accompanied stars such as Liza Minelli and Andy Warhol. However, as his fame progressed, Halston’s ‘work hard, play hard’ ethos spiraled out of control.
Halston provides insight into the life and times of the designer from his childhood as a small-town hatmaker in the 1950s to his time dressing iconic figures like Elizabeth Taylor and Jakie Kelly at the peak of his fame.
Ryan Murphy produces the series. The script was written by Sharr White, and it is directed by Daniel Minahan, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story.
The teaser below shows that Ewan McGregor, Star Wars, Trainspotting and Birds of Prey stars as the title role.
The series was produced in the second half of 2020, with most filming taking place in New York City.
Netflix was vague for a while about Halston's arrival. We knew it was in May 2021.
Netflix confirmed that Halston would be streaming on Netflix starting Friday, 14 May 2021.
