The second season of Fate: The Winx Saga will be available on Netflix in 2022. Here’s everything we know so far about Fate: A Winx Saga season 2 including the new cast members and the news that filming has begun.
Fate: The Winx Saga, a Netflix Original Teen-Fantasy Drama Series, is based on Winx Club's highly popular animated cartoon.
Brian Young created the series, who will be returning for season 2. The directing duties of the show were divided between Hannah Quinn and Stephen Woolfenden, Lisa James Larsson and Hannah Quinn. This series was created in collaboration with Archery Pictures and Rainbow S.p.A. as well as Young Blood Productions.
Among the first looks revealed at Netflix’s Geeked Week was the first look at earth fairy Flora. The first glimpse image as well as the first clip of this new fairy were available.
In addition, while we didn’t get an exact release date, we did get a release window with Fate: The Winx Saga season 2 coming to Netflix globally in Fall 2022.
Netflix Official Renewal Status: Renew in February 2021
In June 2020, we reported that Fate: The Winx Saga was renewed along with Ozark and Warrior Nun.
It wasn’t until February 2021 that Netflix revealed through its Twitter accounts that Fate: The Winx Saga will be returning for a second season!
YouTube also posted a season 2 announcement video to confirm further the news.
Brian Young (showrunner) spoke out about the renewal.
“The six episodes in season one only scratched the surface of this incredibly rich world and the powerful fairies who inhabit it.
As Bloom’s story continues to evolve, I can’t wait for you to learn even more about Aisha, Stella, Terra, and Musa!
And you never know who might show up at Alfea next term…”
Bridgerton was released on Christmas Day and has remained at the top of TV in many countries, including the US. Fate: The Winx Saga was the series that finally defeated the period drama on January 23rd. It must be noted that the Original’s reign at the top only lasted eight days, before being unseated by Bridgerton.
Any live-action adaptation of a Winx Club franchise will be scrutinized.
The casting decisions are the biggest controversy in the history of this series. In particular, the character of Musa, whose character design was inspired by Chinese-American actress Lucy Lui, was not given to an actress of Asian descent, and instead, Emily Applebaum was cast.
Fans had further issues with the character of Flora being dropped in favor of Eliot Salt’s character of Terra Harvey. Although Flora’s potential debut in the second season has been teased by Salt (and we can confirm this to be the case shortly).
Arguably these ‘controversies’ were nowhere near enough a reason to cancel the series.
We’re happy to confirm that there are at least three new characters being introduced in season 2 and in July 2021, we got confirmation as to who will be playing them.
Up to August 2021, casting continues. MovieExtras.ie notes that they’re looking for identical twins to star in season 2. We spoke to a fan account for the series who wasn’t able to recall any identical twins in the source material.
IMDb has Jayden Revri, who was seen in Dead Boy Detectives and The Lodge as the actor playing Devin.
We learned ahead of the confirmation of filming, that production would begin between Mid-July and November 2021, with filming again in Dublin, Ireland.
Season 2 will have 8 episodes, an increase from season 1's 6.
We received confirmation on July 20, 2021 that filming was underway with the new cast members. Season 2 filming is currently taking place in County Wicklow, Ireland. Also, we know some filming took place in Avoca (Ireland).
The filming continued until August 2021, with cast members sharing videos and photographs from their time on set.
FateWinxNews, a Twitter account, has done a great job at archiving photos from cast and crew during the entire production.
Filming concluded in November 2021 according to posts on various actor’s social media posts.
Producer Brian Young gave us an update on January 22, 2022.
“We’re still working on it, and will be for a while!
I know it seems like it takes forever, but a show like #FateTheWinxSaga has a complicated and intense post-production process. Luckily, we’ve got an amazing team of editors, vfx artists, composers, music supervisors, sound designers, colorists and more to see us through it. And rest assured, everyone is working their butts off every single day to make sure we’re giving you the best version of the show we can.
The good news is, it’s all going smoothly and we’re so excited for you to see it when it’s ready. And trust me, the moment I’m allowed to share ANYthing I will!!!”
The series could be back on Netflix in a few months. The series was filmed in September 2019 and ended on December 13, 2019. The series was then made public after thirteen months.
Given the production schedule outlined above, our best guess is that it’ll be out in mid-to-late 2022.
Geeked Week has confirmed that the program will return to Fall 2022. We’ll keep you posted when we know more.
Bloom, the fairy who had been fighting the Burned Ones for years, was able grow her wings in a dramatic battle. Bloom can use her wings to access even greater magic. This is something that only Alfea College staff are able to do.
Bloom's new abilities will make her stronger. The source of Bloom’s power is the Dragon Flame, and if she can control it she may be able to remove the Burned Ones for good.
Bloom may need to take time to master her powers. She collapsed after activating her wings the first time.
With Bloom the first to sprout wings, it can’t be long before we see the other fairies learn how to do the same. Other than being an extremely powerful fairy, we still don’t know why her wings activated, but if she can figure out the key to the ability, other fairies may be able to learn the ancient magic.
Rosalind was able to kill Farah Dowling with the assistance of Queen of Solaria. With her return as headmistress, it’s clear she will use her authority to further push Bloom to unlock more of her powers. Rosalind will likely use the opportunity presented by Alfea's imminent war to motivate students and make them more powerful, possibly even turning them into soldiers who can fight in the coming war.
