Netflix Renewal Status - Renewed (Last Updated on 25/05/2022)

Although it took only a few more weeks for Heartstopper to be renewed, Netflix has now ordered two additional seasons.

It doesn’t happen very often, but the hearts and minds of critics and subscribers were in tandem thanks to the show’s 100% certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and its 98% audience score.

Heartstopper's popularity is also supported by the viewing statistics. The series was watched 14,550,000,000,000 hours in its first week. The viewership grew by 65% to 23,940,000,000,000 hours in week 2.

Heartstopper was also included in the top 10 list of 67 countries around the globe, which includes the US, UK and Australia. It was ranked 9th on the US Top Ten List, but it did exceptionally well in the UK, where it landed at 2nd.

We fully expect Heartstopper to continue trending and growing in viewership, so we are hopeful that the original will be renewed.

How to watch Heartstopper Season 2?

If Heartstopper season 2 continues to faithfully follow the webcomic/graphic novel, then we can anticipate some of these:

  • The introduction of Nick’s older brother David, who is homophobic and does not accept his younger sibling’s bisexuality.
  • Charlie’s struggle with an eating disorder and his mental health.
  • The school’s reaction to Nick and Charlie’s relationship.
  • Paris is the City of Love, a school trip

Nick and Charlie have already faced homophobia, in particular, from Charlie’s abusive and closeted ex-boyfriend Ben, and rich kid Harry. The young couple will face more challenges and tribulations after revealing their relationship.

Season 2 will continue to explore the growing relationship between Tao, Elle and Darcy.

We graphic novel readers know that we can look forward to seeing more from Mr. Ajayi who has been an incredible supporter of Charlie and possibly Mr. Farouk.

We can expect Heartstopper season 2 to feature a return of who?

Most, if no all, of Heartstopper's cast will be returning in the next season.

  • Kit Connor – Nick
  • Joe Locke – Charlie
  • William Gao – Tao
  • Yasmin Finney – Elle
  • Corinna Brown – Tara
  • Kizzy Edgell – Darcy
  • Tobie Donovan – Isaac
  • Jenny Walser – Tori
  • Sebastian Croft – Ben
  • Cormac Hyde-Corrin – Harry
  • Rhea – Imogen
  • Fisayo Akinade – Mr Ajayi
  • Chetna Pandya – Coach Singh
  • Olivia Colman – Sarah (Nick’s Mother)
  • Georgina Rich – Jane (Charlie’s Mother)
  • Joseph Balderrama – Julio (Charlie’s Father)

David, Nick's homophobic younger brother, will be featured in the second season. He has not yet been cast.

What number of seasons can Heartstopper we be expected to see?

Alice Oseman, the creator of Heartstopper, the executive producer of the show, revealed to the RadioTimes that it could take up to four seasons to cover the “full story.”

I haven’t done any in-detail planning or anything, but it’s quite easy to divide up the books into seasons, so four I think would do it.

Netflix can commit to four seasons, which is the ideal number. If the popularity of the show grows or retains its audience from season 1 then there’s no reason why Alice Oseman’s four-season vision cannot be fulfilled.
