Netflix’s most recent romantic teen drama has been a hit with subscribers around the world. Heartstopper's popularity has earned two additional seasons. Here’s everything we know about Heartstopper season 2 on Netflix.
Heartstopper, a Netflix Original Romantic Drama Series, is based on the graphic book by Alice Oseman. The series' executive producer and creator was Alice Oseman. Story centers around Nick (or Charlie) and Charlie, who are two British grammar school students who fall in love with each other.
Netflix Renewal Status - Renewed (Last Updated on 25/05/2022)
Although it took only a few more weeks for Heartstopper to be renewed, Netflix has now ordered two additional seasons.
It doesn’t happen very often, but the hearts and minds of critics and subscribers were in tandem thanks to the show’s 100% certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and its 98% audience score.
Heartstopper's popularity is also supported by the viewing statistics. The series was watched 14,550,000,000,000 hours in its first week. The viewership grew by 65% to 23,940,000,000,000 hours in week 2.
|Week Period||Hours Viewed(M)||Rank||Week in Top 10|
|April 17th, 2022 to April 24th, 2022||14,550,000||7||1|
|April 24th, 2022 to May 1st, 2022||23,940,000 (+65%)||5||2|
Heartstopper was also included in the top 10 list of 67 countries around the globe, which includes the US, UK and Australia. It was ranked 9th on the US Top Ten List, but it did exceptionally well in the UK, where it landed at 2nd.
We fully expect Heartstopper to continue trending and growing in viewership, so we are hopeful that the original will be renewed.
If Heartstopper season 2 continues to faithfully follow the webcomic/graphic novel, then we can anticipate some of these:
Nick and Charlie have already faced homophobia, in particular, from Charlie’s abusive and closeted ex-boyfriend Ben, and rich kid Harry. The young couple will face more challenges and tribulations after revealing their relationship.
Season 2 will continue to explore the growing relationship between Tao, Elle and Darcy.
We graphic novel readers know that we can look forward to seeing more from Mr. Ajayi who has been an incredible supporter of Charlie and possibly Mr. Farouk.
Most, if no all, of Heartstopper's cast will be returning in the next season.
David, Nick's homophobic younger brother, will be featured in the second season. He has not yet been cast.
Alice Oseman, the creator of Heartstopper, the executive producer of the show, revealed to the RadioTimes that it could take up to four seasons to cover the “full story.”
I haven’t done any in-detail planning or anything, but it’s quite easy to divide up the books into seasons, so four I think would do it.
Netflix can commit to four seasons, which is the ideal number. If the popularity of the show grows or retains its audience from season 1 then there’s no reason why Alice Oseman’s four-season vision cannot be fulfilled.
