Review Ethan / 2023-05-10 13:37:29

Arcane is now finished its season and was instantly ordered a second season. There will likely be more. How has it performed on Netflix, and what is its performance outside of Netflix?

You probably know that the series has been performing well in the critics department before you dive into the statistics. The series still has a RottenTomatoes 100% rating from critics, and an audience score of 98%. The series currently has a rating of 9.4/10 on IMDb. That makes it one of Netflix’s best critically received titles in 2021 and one of its best of all time.

Netflix's Top 10 Data on Arcane

We don’t quite yet have the full picture for top 10 data so far so this is definitely a work in progress.

It has been ranked among the top 10s on TV in more than 52 countries, reaching the number one spot in several of these.

The United States has been one of the weaker regions for Arcane it’s worth noting. It reached number two on Netflix US before rapidly falling.

Arcane was the number one global drug in 1997.

Arcane’s main global rivals in the top 10s during its release window have been Narcos: Mexico, Squid Game, and Hellbound.

We mentioned in the article that Arcane took over the Squid Game throne when it was almost two months since Squid Game had been dominating the top 10s. The regions that see the series performing best often have higher levels of player count or are more interested in it, such as Eastern Europe and Asia.

As of November 24th, 2021 – the series is still in the global top 60 and sitting as the number 2 TV series with 585 points.

Arcane Viewing hours Data

Netflix's new Top 10 Site has been launched since the launch of Arcane. It not only provides an updated list of the 10s mentioned above, but also shows us the actual viewing statistics in terms of how many hours we have viewed a specific title.

The show had accumulated 72,590,000 viewings worldwide as of November 25, 2021.

Time Period Viewing Hours (Million)
November 8-14 34.17
November 15 -21 38.42

It’s worth noting that the series was released on November 6th so we’re missing data between November 6th and 7th.

This viewing hours data is still relatively new so if you’d like a great post looking into the ins and outs of Netflix’s new data, Entertainment Strategy Guy has an excellent rundown here.

IMDb MovieMeter data for Arcane

We love IMDb data here at What’s on Netflix. SimilarWeb estimates that IMDb has half a million hits per month and is the largest movie database in the world.

The MovieMeter is refreshed every Monday and is a “measure of popularity” and “based on page views of pages related to a film” or in this case, a series.

The series ranked at number 362 on the charts between October 31st and November 7th. It rose to number 362 in the charts the week after that, from November 7th through 14th. Only Red Notice or Spider-Man: The Way Home were better.

For the week when the final three episodes launched, it was at position number 5 behind Red Notice, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings, and Amazon’s The Wheel of Time.

Is Arcane a player in the League of Legends?

One data point we can look to is the player population for League of Legends but that doesn’t currently suggest a big influx of new players.

According to ActivePlayer.io, League of Legends monthly average players has roughly stayed in line with months prior and hasn’t yet seen an explosion in new users.

It’s worth noting that on November 1st, Riot Games celebrated 180 million players across its multiple franchises.

Is Arcane a good candidate for weekly episodes of Arcane?

Arcane is one of the few Netflix series that has been globally released on Netflix every week. It’s not quite one episode a week like all legacy media but it is batches of 3 at a time over the course of three weeks. Netflix uses this format only when necessary (international distribution such as K-dramas or primary with reality TV).

The Netflix US Top 10s chart is a better example of the benefits Arcane saw in releasing episodes weekly. It is easy to see how Netflix has pushed the series higher in the charts by releasing new episodes every week.
