Luther, a Netflix Original Movie, is a coproduction with BBC Films. It is directed and written by Jamie Payne.

Since 2013, when the scripts for Luther were first written, plans have been underway. The series didn't end until 2019, so plans for the movie were put on hold before it was announced in 2020.

We can now confirm filming has begun with Idris Elba sharing behind-the scenes images from the Luther set. Filming began on October 27, 2021. This means that filming is now underway for less than a month.

Idris Elba had previously expressed his desire to start filming in September, however, due to an unknown delay filming didn’t start until late October.

Despite the fact that filming has begun, we’re still waiting to learn what the plot of the film is.

Which members are confirmed to be Luther's cast?

A few actors are confirmed to play Luther. However, IdrisElba is the obvious choice to return to his Luther role.

Cynthia Erivo is well-known for her roles on Bad Times at El Royale, Harriet and Harriet. She has now been given an unknown role. However, it has been reported that Erivo will play the role of Luther’s nemesis.

Andy Serkis, beloved Planet of the Apes and Lord of the Rings actor has been confirmed to play the role of the antagonist.

Dermot Crowley will also be returning to his role of Schenk.

What date is Luther Netflix's release?

Netflix hasn’t given a release date for Luther, however, with filming currently underway, we’d say it’s a safe bet that Luther will arrive in the second half of 2022.

Is Luther available for streaming on Netflix UK?

As the film is a co-production between Netflix and BBC Films, it’s unclear if Luther will be available on Netflix UK. What’s likely to happen is Luther will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer before eventually arriving on Netflix.
