With the upcoming live adaptation of The Lion King set to release in 2019, it’s only fitting that everyone gets round to watching the 1994 cartoon classic. That being said is Disney’s animal kingdom masterpiece even on Netflix? Let’s find out if The Lion King is streaming on Netflix!

Disney set the trend over the last decade to make some classic cartoon characters live-action. With the overwhelming success of titles such as The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast, it was only a matter of time before The Lion King received the same treatment. It will not be easy for Disney to make improvements on their animated masterpiece. It's a great excuse for us to revisit it.

Is the Lion King real?

The Lion King has been compared to that of a reimagining of the classic Shakespeare tragedy Hamlet. This is a controversial comparison, but we do know that the movie was made alongside Pocohantas, a Disney film. The film's success was unimaginable to its creators at the time. The Academy awarded The Lion King two prizes, and the Broadway musical adaptation of The Lion King has been one the most popular in theater history. The Lion King was produced on a $45 million budget and earned $968.5 million at the box office.

The Plot

The story centers on young Lion cub Simba, which takes place in Africa's Savannah. Simba will become the King of Pride Rock under the guidance of his father Mufasa. Simba is forced to abandon the pride by an unfortunate accident. His uncle Scar takes the title from Mufasa. It will be many years before Simba will return to take back the title of King from Scar and face his Uncle in an epic final showdown.
