By now you’ve heard the buzz surrounding The Night Of. It is based on BBC's Criminal Justice and produced by HBO in eight parts. Originally set to be a stand-alone project (starring James Gandolfini, who retains a posthumous executive producer credit), in July director Steven Zaillian commented about the possibility of a second season: “We’re thinking about it and if we come up with something we all feel is worthy of doing, we’ll do it….There are ways of certainly kind of taking what it feels like and what it’s about and doing another season on another subject.”
Starring John Turturro (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) The Night Of stars Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler) and John Turturro (O Brother, Where Art Thou?). The story follows an intricate New York criminal case. It begins with Ahmad (student), who is desperate to go to a party. He takes a taxi. This will be the beginning of a series that is filled with bad choices. These all add up to him being a suspect in murder.
This show is loved by both critics and viewers. The next Serial has been compared to Making a Muderer. It has been praised by all critics and fans alike for being in the top 95% of Rotten Tomatoes. It is by far one of HBO’s most popular shows to date.
The short answer is: Most likely not. At the very least, not in the near future. Their projects have been kept from Netflix by HBO, as it is well-known. They also have an Amazon multi-year agreement for titles that will land on Amazon.
However: A very interesting rumor developed this week regarding a certain show. Maybe you already know the truth. The Game of Thrones. Exstreamist has a screen shot of the premiere season. You can look at the article and shots yourself, but this could be an exciting development. This could mean that HBO may eventually offer HBO programming.
There are a couple of things you can do if you’re dying to see it. HBO Now can be accessed on a monthly basis. You can buy the HBO Now service for 8 dollars and then stop using it. It can be downloaded directly from iOS or Amazon. Or you can also watch the original that it’s based on, but even that is going to cause you a bit of a headache. It’s currently not streaming in the U.S., but is available by DVD. You can find the second season of Criminal Justice on iTunes.
