Is ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Leaving Netflix in January 2022?

There are rumors that The Vampire Diaries will soon be leaving Netflix. At least three Netflix regions have confirmed this. Here’s what Netflix regions are set to lose The Vampire Diaries in January 2022 and when it’ll be leaving elsewhere.

The Vampire Diaries was created by Julie Plec, Kevin Williamson and remains one of most loved teen shows of all time. Although it aired in the USA on The CW, its popularity has been largely boosted by its inclusion on Netflix worldwide.

The show ended in 2017, and the entire series was made available on Netflix. There have been removal clocks set up around the world, with certain regions losing the series and others set to lose it.

On January 1st, 2022 – three more regions of Netflix are losing the show including:

• Netflix Australia
• Netflix Germany
• Netflix Switzerland

For those in Australia, this is the second time you’ve faced the prospect of The Vampire Diaries leaving Netflix. You’ll know that you previously saw all 8 seasons removed back in March 2019 before it was relicensed on January 1st, 2020. Two years later, the 8 remaining seasons have been removed from their respective sites.

It’s not the only Warner Brothers show leaving Netflix in some regions in January 2022. As we’ve previously reported, Friends is also making its departure from more Netflix regions in early 2022 as HBO Max continues its global rollout. Young Justice, DC and other titles will also be lost in some Netflix regions.

What date will The Vampire Diaries be removed from Netflix USA?

The Vampire Diaries will be retained by the US for a while, but not too long.

Based on our removal schedule, The Vampire Diaries will leave Netflix USA on March 8, 2022. We recommend that you get it as soon as possible if you want to see it.

This leaves Netflix UK and India without The Vampire Diaries. Netflix UK pulled the series in November 2020, but it was miraculously renewed in February 2021. It is not known if this license is for a shorter period of time or a longer one. If it follows the relicense that Netflix Australia received, it won’t be until February 2023.

It is unknown when Netflix India will end the series.

Netflix Canada cancelled the series in October 2018.
