Set in 2011, Jolyne Cujoh is sentenced to 15 years in prison after being involved in a car accident and being framed for a murder. She is imprisoned at Green Dolphin Street Prison in Florida, nicknamed the "Aquarium." Her father, Jotaro Kujo, gives her a pendant that causes a mysterious power to awaken inside of her. When a series of inexplicable events occur, Jotaro informs his daughter that a disciple of DIO's framed her so that he could kill her in prison, and urges her to escape.
The Official Jojo Stone Ocean Anime Trailer has finally dropped, and we've got a bunch of information on the anime's release date, voice actors, and simulcast situation. Yet, many people are still confused for numerous reasons, so I decided to break down each important information point by point.
SEE STONE OCEAN OFFICIAL WEBSITE
First let's see the trailer!
Starting with the most obvious, the anime will premier worldwide on Netflix in December 2021 and begin broadcasting on Japanese tv in January 2022.
Now, many people are confused about whether Stone ocean's entire season will be released on Netflix or just a portion of episodes. Well, there's a strong case for both, but I'm leaning on the latter. Netflix is infamous for dropping a portion of episodes as cours to keep engagement and anticipation from viewers.
Now, many fear Jojo could be in Netflix jail, well that's likely untrue because the anime will begin airing on streaming services (most likely got to sail the high seas, if you know what I mean), as it airs on Japanese television starting January.
Also, while doubtful, there is a chance Netflix drops the entire season at once. Though that would be a major disappointment as one of the best parts of the Jojo viewing experience, the epic cliffhangers lead to a bunch of anticipation and speculation from the fanbase.
Nevertheless, onto the next important information. It seems like Netflix is investing much money into the stone ocean as the subtitles keep the original stand names. Usually, stand names are altered to avoid copyright issues, but it seems Netflix probably paid a considerable amount of money to use the original names. However, a rookie translator could also be a mistake because Netflix doesn't have the best subtitles compared to other streaming services.
Onto the next important info. Many are speculating if that's Jolyne OST that played in the trailer or the opening. Well, it's likely the former because the Golden Wind trailer played one of Giorno's themes as well. Now, is that Joylene's main theme? It's impossible to know right now, but it seems to be one of her themes.
Now let's get to the voice actors!
Many are already familiar with Jolyne's VA; Ai Fairouz. She accumulated a lot of love & support after her heartwarming interview discussing her love for Jojo. IMO, she's easily the best choice for Jolene, judging by her performance in the trailer.
Now, what is Ai's history? Well, she's a young 28-year-old voice actress who developed her interest in anime and manga after reading JoJo's Bizarre Adventure in junior high school. Born to a Japanese mother and an Egyptian father, Fairouz was named after a Lebanese singer. She was raised bilingually and knew both Arabic and Japanese, having completed elementary school in Cairo, according to an interview on the Japanese site WebNewType.
Fairouz began her stint in the anime industry by participating in reading sessions of Stone Ocean via Skype, receiving good feedback for the same. That inspired her to become a voice actor. Fairouz has voiced characters like Hibiki Sakura in How heavy are the dumbbells you lift, Emily Orange in Kandagawa Jet Girls, and Eripiyo in If my favorite Pop Idol made it to Budokan, I would die.
Then, moving on, we have Jotaros voice actor, the most iconic and popular out of the crew. He's also a giant fan of the Jojo franchise, and coincidently jotaro being his favorite character. However, his reach is far wider than Jojo's. Daisuke Ono is a Japanese voice actor and singer who won the 4th and 9th Seiyu Awards for best lead actor for his role as Sebastian Michaelis in Black Butler, Jotaro Kujo in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and Shukuro Tsukishima in Bleach, as well as "Best Personalities" at the 9th Seiyu Awards.
Other notable roles include Erwin Smith in Attack on Titan, Silver the Hedgehog in Sonic the Hedgehog, Drole in The Seven Deadly Sins, and many more. So, Daisuke is a critically acclaimed VA known for airing in many popular beloved series!
Moving on to Foo fighter's voice actor: Mariya Ise. Like Daisuke, Ise is a long-time established voice actor known for working in numerous critically acclaimed and famous series. Some of her most iconic roles were Kailua from HxH, Midari from Kakeguri, Reg in made in the abyss, and levy from fairy tail.
As for her biography, Ise became interested in acting after watching Princess Mononoke on a first-year/grader of junior secondary high school. Initially, she longed for director work and began to see various works. She has a good reputation for various roles, from infants to cheerful girls, bewitching adult women, cheeky boys, to crazy roles. On October 1, 2009, she moved her office from Bring-up to Across Entertainment. She married in January 2014. In the fall of that year, she reported that she gave birth to her first child on her blog.
Moving on to Emporio VA: Atsumi Tanizaki. She's also another established VA known for roles such as Lisa from terror in resonance, Mayu in death parade, and Miu from blend S. As for her biography, In an interview with Repotama, Tanezaki revealed she was interested in acting while watching Sailor Moon. Tanizaki attended a concert and had the opportunity from Junko Iwao. Upon expressing her desire to become a voice actress at a fan event, Iwao responded, stating that she looked forward to working with her.
Then for the Weather report voice actor: Yuichiro Umehara; Yūichirō Umehara is a Japanese voice actor affiliated with Arts Vision. He is best known for his roles as En Yufuin, Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, Goblin Slayer, in Goblin Slayer, and mars in black clover. At the 10th Seiyu Awards, he won the Best Rookie Actors Award for his role Kurō Hazama in Young Black Jack and Wakasa in Merman in My Tub.
As for his biography: On May 10, 2018, it was announced that Umehara was hospitalized. On July 30, 2018, Arts Vision announced that Umehara had completed his recovery and would return to work later. Arts Vision also stated that while he was being treated in the hospital, Umehara had a complication of intracranial hypotension, but after medical treatment and rehabilitation, his doctors discharged him from the hospital with no worries about after-effects.
Now for the final confirmed VA: Daisuke Namikawa; the VA of Anasui. Daisuke Namikawa is a Japanese actor, voice actor, and singer associated with Stay Luck. Despite his wide range of voice casting, he is usually cast as young, kind heroes, such as Rokuro "Rock" Okajima in Black Lagoon, Jack The Ripper in Black Clover, and Yu Narukami in Persona 4. He also played anti-heroes or villains, such as Ulquiorra in Bleach, Hisoka in Hunter x Hunter (2011), and Eustass Kid in One Piece. He made his directorial debut for Wonderful World, a live-action film in Japan, in the early summer of 2010. He won Best Actor in supporting roles in the 4th Seiyu Awards.
As for his biography: Namikawa married in 2001. In 2017, Shūkan Bunshun reported that Namikawa had been involved in an on-and-off extramarital affair with a female employee from his previous agency since 2004, whom he met when she had still been a teenager. Namikawa later confirmed the report and apologized.
