K-Drama Series ‘Reply 1988’ Coming to Netflix in January

Netflix will soon have Reply 1988, one of the most critically-acclaimed and highly-rated K-Dramas. For the first time, Reply 1988 will be available to subscribers around the world, and if the popularity of the other two reply series on Netflix, Reply 1994 and Reply 1997, is anything to go by, we’re expecting Reply 1988 to be one of the most binged shows in the first week of the new year.

Three installments have been released by tvN over the last 8 years. Reply 1997 was the first, and Reply 1994 followed in 2014. Reply 1988 came in 2015. Before the highly acclaimed series Sky Castle was released, Reply 1988 was South Korea's highest-rated drama on South Korean cable TV. Reply 1988 is currently ranked second in South Korea's cable TV history for highest ratings.

Five childhood friends from Seoul's Ssangmundong neighbourhood rely on one another to help them through the teenage years. Sun Deok Sun, the middle child of her family's poor household struggles to get their attention. She also has the responsibility of being the lowest-ranked student at her school. Kim Jung Hwan has only one goal, and that is to play soccer, even though his family became wealthy overnight. Sung Sun Woo, a reliable and compassionate student who is also a great president of the student council, is exemplary as he. Despite being a ‘geek’ about life and girls Ryu Dong Ryong won’t be getting into college thanks to his poor academic scores. Choi Taek, the last of five, is a brilliant Baduk player. He even quit school to become a professional. The five of them get into plenty of mischief, and while they all each must experience miserable times, it’s up to each of them to help carry their friends to a better future.
