Netflix Animated Series ‘Magic: The Gathering’: First Cast Member Announced & What We Know So Far

First announced in June 2019, we’ve waited just over two years for the first details on the upcoming Magic: The Gathering animated series. Along with updates on production, the first member of the cast has been revealed. The animated series will be available to Netflix in 2022.

Magic: The Gathering, an animated Netlfix Original series that will air in 2019, is set in the worlds of the popular table-top game.

The original plan was to have the series produced by the Russo Brothers (Avengers Endgame) but they have since quit the project.

What time is Magic: The Gathering on Netflix?

An exact date hasn’t been given by Netflix, but we can confirm that the series is scheduled for release sometime in 2022.

The Gathering: What exactly is magic?

Richard Garfield was the genius behind Magic: The Gathering. The popular card game, which was first released in 1993, has enjoyed increasing popularity over its 28 year history. The franchise is home to many expansions, thousands and thousands of cards, as well as comic books and novels. It also has e-sports that are based on Magic: The Gathering Arena.

Magic: the Gathering can be found in more than 70 countries and is published in eleven languages. We expect that the anime series will be hugely popular, considering the fan base of more than 38 million.

How does Magic: The Gathering work?

An official synopsis has yet to be revealed by Netflix but given the recent cast announcement, it’s more than likely that the series will focus on the adventures of Gatewatch, the group of the multiverse’s most powerful planeswalkers who protect the world from harm.

Which actors have been chosen to star in Magic: The Gathering?

Netflix announced that Brandon Routh (an actor in Arrowverse and Superman Returns) will be the voice for Gideon Jura.

Gideon Jura, one of the planeswalkers is a title that belongs to the most powerful creatures in the multiverse. A powerful Hieromancer, Gideon’s abilities allow him to use his protective powers by enforcing order or suppressing the abilities of others. Gatewatch was founded by Gideon and other planeswalkers in order to defend the multiverse against world-ending dangers.

Netflix also revealed some visual concepts as well as 3-D characters models.

Allspark Animation is handling the animation. Bardel Entertainment handles all of it. Octopie, a freelance animator, will be involved in the project.
