A Whisker Away was originally scheduled to be released in Japan as a theatrical film. However, due to ongoing coronavirus outbreaks, it was postponed and later canceled. Netflix acquired the film and will release it worldwide on their streaming platform at a later time.

Miyo Sasaki, a junior-high school student is deeply in love with Kento Hinode. However, he doesn't seem to notice her. She finally catches the eye of Hinode after discovering that she can turn into Taro the cat using a magical mask. If she loses her boundaries as a feline and human, Miyo will be unable to transform into Taro.
