Netflix is in the mood for sci-fi in 2018 as it’s just acquired another sci-fi movie right off the back of the latest Cloverfield movie which landed on Netflix last week after the Superbowl.
Variety broke the news of the acquisition yesterday. They are the latest to acquire Universal, which also owns Paramount. The movie was initially slated to be released in cinemas until last month it was pulled off of Universal’s release schedule. It remains to be determined if this is a reflection of the movie's quality. Given Netflix’s previous acquisitions in the movie department from films originally intending to be released in cinemas, we suspect that this movie was being predicted to be a failure.
Although no official release date is yet to be announced, we have a lot of information thanks yesterday's announcement as well as other news released before.
Here’s everything we know about the movie so far.
The movie, directed by Ben Young, features the written work of Eric Heisserer, Spenser Cohen and Brad Kane. It is about a father who dreams about his children, but when they are invaded, his nightmare turns into a reality. From there, the movie continues. You can expect supernatural and sci-fi elements, as well as many characteristics from thrillers.
The two mains stars of the movie are Michael Peña and Lizzy Caplan. Peña is mostly known for his roles in movies such as CHiPs (2017), Ant-Man (2015), The Martian (2015), End of Watch (2012), and Fury (2014).
Lizzy Caplan has been a star in TV and movies, including Masters of Sex. She also appeared in Mean Girls and The Interview. And, coincidentally the first Cloverfield.
The cast also includes:
James McAvoy was the originally intended star for the movie according to the writer of the movie (who subsequently left).
No official release date is known just yet, although we’re expecting it to arrive in the fall lineup which is currently looking a little slim for movie releases.
