Netflix acquired the streaming rights for Surviving R. Kelly, a docu-series that was released in January. Here’s what you need to know about the series, the streaming rights and the potential sequel series on the way too.
This docu-series focuses on the controversial subject of R. Kelly. Netflix isn’t shy in picking up and producing docu-series on controversial subjects.
The series is divided into six sections and includes testimony as well as a recap of events surrounding the R. Kelly scandal involving the allegations of Kelly's abuse.
Netflix is currently available in most regions, including Australia, Canada, United Kingdom and Canada.
We will not only get the four-part original season but also the follow up episodes which aired May 2019.
Netflix will release Surviving R. Kelly Season 1 on September 15. Also releasing on Netflix globally in September is a docu-series on Bill Gates and the second season of Vox’s Explained.

It’s not the first time Netflix has picked up a Lifetime series. Netflix acquired You last year and will continue to produce it. A&E Networks owns the network and has been focusing on documentaries, reality series, and other non-scripted content for its content portfolio.
This should mean that Netflix will be able to offer more of the top shows from the network. We already know there is a Jeffrey Epstein series in the works.
