Concrete Cowboy, the new Western drama from IdrisElba will see Elba riding his horse to Netflix. The exciting cast from the Western will be available on Netflix starting April 2, 2021. Concrete Cowboy, a Netflix Original Western-Drama by Ricky Staub is directed by Greg Neri and based upon the book Ghetto Cowboy. Staub, Dan Walser and Staub co-wrote the screenplay. They were inspired by seeing real urban cowboys from Philadelphia to create the film. While doing research on the Fletcher Street Urban Riding Club, it ultimately lead Staub to discover Greg Neri’s book on which the film is based on.
Concrete Cowboy will be available on Netflix April 2, 2021.
It had already premiered theatrically at the Toronto International Film Festival, September 13, 2020. The film was distributed by Netflix in the month that followed.
Cole, a fifteen-year-old boy from Detroit moves to North Philidelphia in order to be with his father. Upon arriving Cole discovers “the world of urban horseback riding”.

Concrete Cowboy's cast has at least five actors who have appeared in multiple Netflix Originals. Concrete Cowboy, starring Caleb McLaughlin from Stranger Things is his second feature-length film.
Given the movie has already premiered, you’ll be able to find plenty of opinions on the movie.
According to RottenTomatoes, the general consensus is that the film's main cast was well received and the director was praised by critics. It is currently at 77%, with 43 reviews.
Katie Rife of AV Club called the movie a “little corny at times” but added that it “looks good and has heart”.
The principal photography began in August 2019, and was done in North Philadelphia.
Interestingly, Idris Elba is actually allergic to horses as he mentioned in a panel at the Toronto Film Festival saying: “In defense, I’m allergic to horses, OK. I couldn’t see what I was doing, I couldn’t breathe,”.
