The second season of Never Have I Ever was a huge success, and Netflix renewed the series to continue the trend. Season 3 is now complete and will debut on Netflix on August 20, 2022. Here’s an updated look at everything we know so far.
Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher created Never Have I Ever, a Netflix Original comedy series about coming of age. It loosely draws inspiration from Kaling's own childhood experiences.
Season 2 was released on Netflix last July 15, 2021.
Between the releases of Never Have I Ever's first and second seasons, there was a gap of fifteen months. The release of season 1 was in April 2020. Season 2 came out in July 2021.
The gap between seasons has been reduced by two months, and we’ll see season 3 of Never Have I Ever on Netflix on Friday, August 12th, 2022.
The filming began in November 29, 2021, and ended on February 18th. After filming for several months, the cameras stopped rolling on February 18, 2022.
Kaling International shared many photos throughout the production process on Instagram. These are the top behind-the scenes photos from the third season.
Official Netflix Renewal Status Renewal: This status was renewed on August 19, 2021
It didn’t take Netflix long to make the decision to renew Never Have I Ever for a third season. Netflix was 100% certain that the series would be renewed, partly because of its popularity.
It has never been in the top 10 list of more than 70 countries, ranking it as number one in many countries. Virgin River quickly overtook the show to become number one in America for a brief time.
Thanks to Netflix’s new top 10 site, we can even get an idea as to how much of the show was watched.
The show was viewed for an estimated 132.14 millions hours between July 11th, 2021 and August 1, 2021.

Netflix’s official Instagram page (and other accounts for the show) announced the series returning by saying screaming:
“OMFG. WE’RE COMING BACK FOR AN ALL NEW SEASON Y’ALL!!!!!! SCREAMMMMMMMM”
Devi surprised herself by having Ben and Paxton as her arms. She was struggling to choose between the boys. She wanted to be her boyfriend. Eventually losing both boys, Devi was able to rekindle her relationship with Paxton just in time for the school’s winter dance.
Ben, despite his new relationship with Anesa and the possibility of a future together, is upset at Devi's decision to end their budding romance. However, Eleanor reassured Ben that Devi originally wanted to be with him, so he’s only out of the race to be Devi’s boyfriend only if he chooses to be.
Ben now has to decide if he will pursue Devi or abandon Aneesa's new relationship. Or, he can try and make it work with his girlfriend, despite the fact that his heart is still elsewhere.
Devi and Paxton have begun to patch things up, but there’s still a lot for the pair to work on before they’ll be in a truly committed and happy relationship.
Next season will definitely explore that relationship more, especially the challenges they’ll each face.
Mindy Kaling, the creator of EW may have mentioned in an interview that Paxton and Devi are still on the horizon.
I’ve watched enough romantic comedies that it’s not interesting unless it’s constantly shifting and changing. Having the lead character be happy in love is not super interesting to me. It’s more suspenseful when we don’t know.
We expect more obstacles to the way for Devi and Paxton, based on the comments of Kaling.
Mindy Kaling also gave plenty of clues as to the future for season 3.
In a comprehensive interview with Stylecaster, Kaling spoke about the love triangle between Devi, Paxton, and Ben saying that she doesn’t have an endgame in mind adding: “I think it’s great because both of these choices are really great in their own way, but it’s been really fun seeing how passionate people are for one or the other side. This reminds me of my teenage years and the passion you have for fictional relationships. That makes me really happy.”
When asked about wanting to do seasons beyond season 3, Kaling said: “I hope we get to do more seasons because I love the cast and the characters, and I love writing in this world.”
For the third season, we can count on the return of most of the Never Have I Ever cast;
|Maitreyi Ramakrishnan||Devi Vishwakumar|
|Poorna Jagannathan||Nalini Vishwakumar|
|Darren Barnet||Paxton Hall-Yoshida|
|John McEnroe||John McEnroe / Narrator|
|Benjamin Norris||Trent Harrison|
|Jaren Lewison||Ben Gross|
|Lee Rodriguez||Fabiola Torres|
|Ramona Young||Eleanor Wong|
|Common||Dr. Chris Jackson|
Geeta, a new character from season 3, is confirmed. Ranjita Chakravarty plays the South Asian character from this period of 50s and 60s.
Lang Fisher, who serves as the co-creator of the show, previously told ET that Nirmala, as well as the rest of Devi’s family, would play a crucial role going forward saying “She just brought this whole other dimension and kind of filled a little bit of the void that Mohan left. I’d like to see the new dynamics of her family now.”
