After its original postponement because of COVID-19, Patriot Act featuring Hasan Minhaj is soon to be back on Netflix. Every Sunday, a new episode will drop starting May 17, 2020.
Patriot Act, as you might know, was initially scheduled to stream March 2020. It also had its usual live studio audience. Production was delayed, and the show's release date was pushed back, just like many other Netflix Original productions.
We know now, nearly two months later that the program will return on May 17, 2020.
Hasan took to Twitter (retweeted shortly after by Netflix’s See What’s Next account) to promote the upcoming sixth volume saying: “It’s going to be a little bit different” before getting cut off by the visual team who often play pranks with him in the normal format.
If the show runs for another six weeks here’s the current schedule for volume 6 of Patriot Act:
Volume 6 will see Hasan presenting before a green screen.
It will make a big difference from his normal setup when the show in New York is taped live.
Hasan uses a multicamera setup to engage the audience and take shots of him talking directly to them. This is a departure from other late-night programs. That combined with the fact he’s in front of huge screens with infographics.
As for what topics will be covered in volume 6 we’re still not sure. However, if we were betting, we’d almost certainly bet that the current pandemic may come up once or twice.
Thanks to THR, we know that the new episodes will be led by new showrunner Prashanth Venkataramanujam, a co-creator of the series and a frequent collaborator of Minhaj’s.
The Television Academy has awarded the Patriot Act a prize for inciting social change after all of the confusion surrounding COVID-19.
