In case it was not obvious, Raising Dion is an original Netflix superhero-drama series that's based on Dennis Liu's comic series.
Original adaptation of the series into a 2015 short film gained a lot of popularity online. Netflix purchased the series in 2017, just a few years after it was originally made into a short film. Dennis Liu was involved in many aspects of Raising Dion. He directed one episode and served as executive producer.
Subscribers around the globe will have access to Raising Dion Season 2 on Tuesday, February 1, 2022!
Netflix revealed that Raising Dion will return for season 2 on January 2, 2020, after a wait of several months. Raising Dion was the official Netflix renewal for 2020.
Variety reported that Carol Barbee will be back as showrunner of Season 2 following the renewal. Michael B. Jordan, Kenny Goodman, Kim Roth, Dennis Liu, and Charles D. King’s Macro will all stay on in executive producer roles too.
It was instantly popular on Netflix. The series currently has a rating of 7.2/10 IMDb as of June 2020. On Metacritic Raising Dion, the series is at 61 of 100.
We now know the number of people who have viewed the premiere season on Netflix since its release. In its four first weeks, Raising Dion was viewed by more than 32 million households. We also learned that 60% viewers were from other countries.
Aside from the cliffhanger ending showcasing who will be Dion’s enemy going into Season 2, our young superhero still needs to find a way to bring his dad home for good.
Dion still needs to know a lot about his abilities and will face many challenges if he wants to be a super hero.
If the story of Raising Dion can run for at least four seasons it’ll be fun to watch both the character and actor grow into a young man.
Other big questions are whether Nicole can find love, despite the last episode containing some hints of hope.
Mark, Pat and Charlotte are missing, but they could all return depending on the next events. DigitalSpy suggests that we might eventually be able to meet gifted children as well.
What’s on Netflix has also been provided with an official season 2 synopsis:
“Season 2 follows Dion as he continues honing his powers with the support of his mom and Tevin (Rome Flynn), his Biona trainer who catches Nicole’s eye. After befriending new student Brayden (Griffin Robert Faulkner) – a fellow powered kid – a series of alarming events unfold, and Dion learns that danger is still looming. Navigating twists, turns, and surprise visitors, Dion and Nicole must prevail again — not just to save themselves, but the entire city of Atlanta.”
Netflix released the first glimpse photos of its new season on December 14, 2021.

As we stated above, production didn’t get underway under the original plan as it was canceled due to the pandemic which inflicted heavy delays on productions.
Production was initially set up to begin in 2020. There is one Netflix account that says:
“I HAVE SOME NEWS FRIENDS!! #RaisingDion has officially been renewed for a second season, with production set to begin this year!!!”
However, due to all of the COVID-19 production problems, this was greatly rescinded.
However, production did begin in January 2021.
Filming is expected to be completed over several months. Preliminary dates suggest that filming will take place between January 19th and May 24th.
Season 2 will be filmed in Atlanta, Georgia by EUE Screens Gems Studios.
Although not many photos were taken at the set, you will see Alisha Wainwright playing Nicole on stage in her mask.
Numerous casting calls were held in February 2021 to find extras for the program.
Richard Vialet announced on April 25th, that he was done with season 2.
Dennis Liu will also return to the director’s seat for season 2 and is scheduled to direct episodes 3 and 4.
The show is expected to have completed filming but given how limited social activity is on the show we can’t be sure. We do know that the show was listed on Georgia’s state website and is no longer present.
Netflix announced four additional faces in late February 2021 that they would feature on Season 2 of Raising Dion.
These include, as seen from left to right:
Rome Flynn posted on Twitter following the announcement saying: “I’ve always wanted to be a superhero. Honored to be part of another show with representation at the Forefront.”.
