Rugal, a Netflix Original Sci-Fi K-drama Series based on the webtoon comic with the same title is coming soon. After the success of Itaewon Class, this will be the second Netflix Original sci-fi K-drama series to be adapted from a Webtoon.

What is Rugal's Netflix release date?

On Tuesday 17 March 2020, Netflix will release the first episode of Rugal.

For 8 weeks, Rugal will be broadcast on Tuesdays and Thursdays on a two-weekly basis.

After a police officer’s attempt to take down a nationwide criminal organization ends in complete disaster for him and his fianceè, Kang Ki Beom has lost he once was. Ki Beom is forced into a life of crime, after being left without his sight and a murdered fianceè. After Rugal, a company that provides artificial eyes and special abilities to Kang Ki Beom, he is offered a chance to get revenge on the criminal group.

There are currently 98 chapters of the Rugal webtoon available online at the time this article was written. You can expect a substantial portion of the webtoon to be covered by the 16 chapters spread over sixteen hours of television.

If we take into consideration that chapters of Rugal arrive on a weekly basis still, it’s likely that room for a second season is open, but that entirely depends on the popularity of the series.

Is it possible for an OCN drama to break into cable TV's top ten?

These K-Dramas have been incredibly popular on Netflix over the past several years, breaking many South Korean ratings records. In particular, we’ve seen one incredibly successful series arrive on Netflix recently, that being the rom-com Crash Landing on You. It currently ranks second on the South Korean list of top-rated cable TV dramas, 32 spots higher than Voice 2, the nearest OCN drama.

As a sister channel to tvN, is available in a large number of homes in South Korea, therefore, there’s every chance that Rugal could of least break into the top 20 of the high rated cable television dramas. Rugal must have a minimum of 8.938% rating during its 16-episode run to be eligible for the top 20. Rugal must beat Hotel del Luna to reach the top 10. Although it may seem small, Rugal's rating is 4.9% more than OCN.
