Arriving this November is Netflix’s potential future Oscar winner, Atlantics. Critics around the globe have praised Atlantics as the first Senegal Original feature to be released on Netflix. We can’t wait to see Atlantics and we’re here to share everything we know about the film, including the plot, cast, trailer, and Netflix release date.
Atlantics, a Senegal Netflix Original Drama written and directed by Mati diop. Mati Diop directed the film and it was prominently featured at Cannes Film Festival. In the Cannes Film Festival’s 72-year history, Mati Diop became the first black female director to compete in Cannes, winning the Grand Prize for best film.
Netflix will release Atlantics on Friday, November 29th 2019.
Netflix has acquired the rights to Atlantics, which will allow it to be distributed internationally.

The workers at a futuristic construction site go to sea to find a better life for their family and themselves after months of no pay. Souleiman is Ada's lover and is promising to marry another. Days later after the workers disappear, Ada’s wedding is ruined by fire and mysterious virus begins to spread, but unknown to Ada, Souleiman has returned.

IMDb says that many cast members of Atlantics will be making their debut in the movie. It’s unknown if some of the cast have performed in other Senegal productions and IMDb simply hasn’t logged it.
The production was done in various areas surrounding Dakar, capital of Senegal.
Filming took place from March 2018 to May of that year but wasn’t “completed” until April 2019.

Atlantics runs for 103 minutes.
Atlantics was shot using 4K equipment, including Varicam and Red Weapon. Nearly every Netflix Original has the ability to stream in 4K, and Atlantics will be the same.
French, English and Wolof are the three languages featured in Atlantics.
Wolof, the native language of Wolof, is spoken in Senegal and Gambia by more than 5 million people.
English subtitles are available for viewers.
