Starz' Counterpart was cancelled after just two seasons for a strange reason. Netflix could save Counterpart season 3. Could it also carry previous seasons? Let’s take a look.
The sci-fi thriller series from Starz first debuted in 2017 and stars J.K. Simmons who finds the organization he works for can travel to a parallel dimension and Simmons character meets his alternate self who’s fighting in a cold war.
Starz ordered two seasons of the series because it featured sci-fi elements.
You may have heard that Counterpart was cancelled in April 2019. However, more details about the reasons for its cancellation were revealed in recent days.

Speaking at TCA, Starz said the show was “too male”. It cited how it was a complicated show and naturally, females cannot understand complex shows (yes, we’re being sarcastic). The network notes its currently pushing for a “premium female” audience.
At the time this article was published, Counterpart isn't streaming on Netflix. This means that Netflix doesn't have its own metrics for deciding whether to pick it up.
Netflix recently acquired the Starz license to stream Outlander's first and second seasons. Although technically Sony sold the rights, this could indicate that Netflix is examining Starz content carefully.
Netflix and Anonymous Content, one of the production firms, already collaborate on several projects. Bonding, 13 Reasons why and Maniac are just a few examples. Many of the other Netflix shows can also be found on Netflix.
Back in April, Justin Marks, the shows creator did give hope when he said: “We’re currently on iTunes, and we should have info about a new fantastic place where you can find both seasons very, very soon!”. We don’t know whether he was referring to another streaming platform.
We believe the show will be a great fit for Netflix, given that its science-fi output is not very consistent. We should mention, however, Netflix’s sci-fi output from international regions such as Dark are higher caliber.
Let's now turn to you. Is Counterpart due for a third season on Netflix? We'd love to hear from you in the comments.
