‘Stargate SG-1’ Leaving Netflix After One Year in December 2021

Stargate SG-1, which was added to Netflix in December 2017, is due to be removed as part of December 2021 Netflix US Removals.

Netflix USA received only 10 episodes of Stargate SG-1 in December 2017. Most other Netflix regions have streamed the series since long before that. Netflix UK lost Stargate SG-1 in February 2016.

Stargate SG-1's 10 seasons of aired episodes will be wiped out, leaving 214 episodes.

Among the other TV shows leaving Netflix in December 2021 includes some reality series, all six seasons of Glee and Turn: Washington’s Spies.

Netflix is leaving Stargate SG-1

Netflix acquired the show for a one-year licensing agreement. It is more common than ever (especially with the pandemic), for Netflix to acquire a show in a brief window that will allow them to evaluate whether it's worth licensing over a longer time.

After Netflix leaves, where will Stargate SG-1 stream?

Hulu will be Stargate SG-1's exclusive streaming site in December. Hulu currently offers Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis SG-1 streaming in their entirety. It looks like this may be temporary, as all of the current shows are set to end soon.

For the foreseeable future, Stargate is available on Netflix USA. In June 2019, the movie was added to Netflix. It typically stays on Netflix for around one year before it is removed. This means the movie is likely to leave Netflix sometime between 2022 and 2022. So catch it while you still can.

Stargate will be an Amazon Prime permanent fixture for the long-term. In case you didn’t know, Amazon is purchasing MGM alongside all its IP and assets and one of their biggest assets is undoubtedly Stargate.

MGM Television had been rumored to be exploring Stargate's new universe. At one time, it was even reported that Netflix was being considered. It is unclear if anything will come of this. Netflix and MGM Television are currently working on two projects involving Vikings: Valhalla, Wednesday.
