‘Switched at Birth’ Leaving Netflix in May 2019

Freeform’s Switched at Birth is currently appearing to be leaving Netflix in the United States come May 2019. It’s scheduled to leave likely among many other Freeform titles as Disney steps up its preparations for its Disney+ platform.

Switched at Birth aired on Freeform from 2012 to 2012. It was given a fifth season that consisted of 10 episodes. It is about two teenager girls who find out they are switched at birth.

You’ll be seeing us covering quite a few major removals from Netflix this year as Disney has recently made strides to pull its content from other streaming services in favor of its majority shareholding of Hulu and its introduction of Disney+ later in 2019. Titles from National Geographic and Freeform could all be removed.

Since the beginning of its lifecycle, Switched at Birth is available on Netflix. Netflix released Season 5 in May 2017. This means that Netflix has now streamed all of Switched At Birth's episodes for two years.

Removal date on Switched at Birth

You can see that the Netflix series will be ending on May 11, 2019, at the earliest, in America.

May will also feature some other high profile removals too. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 will be removed on May 5, along with other less-known titles.

The Fosters is another big Freeform series that’ll potentially leave later this year too. The Fosters was renewed in October 2017, so it is likely that they will be leaving in October 2019. Pretty Little Liars has also been renewed. We did suspect that Netflix may be getting the sequel season but that’s yet to be confirmed.

Netflix could possibly renew its services? It could, yes. However, our experience is that Netflix prefers to have new content than older titles. In this instance, we believe that it’s Disney letting the contract run out in favor of sticking its content on its own platforms.

No confirmation as to where Switched at Birth will stream just yet but as we mentioned above it’ll either be Hulu or Disney+.
