The debut season of That Girl Lay Lay lit up the Netflix Top 10s. It aired on Nickelodeon in the late 2021, before reaching Netflix worldwide in January 2022. On January 29, 2022, the second season was ordered.
Alaya high, who is the series' creator, first ordered 12 episodes of Nick in May 2021. Since her youth, the hip-hop musician and actress has amassed an enormous following on Instagram (1.3 million)
Sadie, a high school student who has enough to do with school and her family is now complicated by her new hype-girl avatar.
The series is available outside the United States with both the Nickelodeon and Netflix Original branding. This isn’t wholly unique given Netflix has released some Nickelodeon movies with similar marketing setups. Nickelodeon as well as Netflix own the marketing rights to this show, with Nick uploading clips to YouTube and Netflix Futures. It’s likely (but unconfirmed) that this series is the first title to come out of the 2019 Nickeloden Netflix deal.
Current renewal status: Renew (last update: January 20,22).
Let’s start at the beginning. Two months ago, a Fandom page stated that a second season was in the works. According to the Wiki, the second season was ordered. It includes episode 1, Lay Lay the Know-it-All, and episode 2, Lay Lay Loves Loves. It suggests “These episodes have been taped with no known air date. The episodes have been approved to be on here by the founder of the wiki.”
Then, we posted January 28th that there was no renewal decision. It got renewed just hours later!
According to a press release, “Season 2 of That Girl Lay Lay will bring more music and magical powers as the two best friends continue to go on even more exciting adventures, working to fulfill Lay Lay’s desire to experience everything that comes with being a real teenager. The series also features Peyton Perrine III as Sadie’s brother, Marky; Tiffany Daniels as Sadie’s mom, Trish; and Thomas Hobson as Sadie’s dad, Bryce.”
FlixPatrol data allows us to see how the series is doing since January 2022, when it premiered on Netflix.
This series can be featured in three Netflix Top 10 Lists, including the TV top 10s overall and top 10s for children. So let’s break down how well the show is doing as of January 28th:
On Instagram, Alaya celebrated the success of That Girl Lay Lay in the Netflix top 10s with an Instagram post that states: “Come on y’all keep me and my beautiful TV family in the Top 10!!! If you haven’t already watched #TGLL on @netflix GO GO GO!!!! We are grateful for your support and love!!”
According to Netflix’s own Top 10 site, in the first week of being on Netflix, the series was in the overall top 10 in the Bahamas, Jamaica, Kenya, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Season 2 will begin production early in 2022, and air in the summer of on Nickelodeon. If Netflix still has the global rights and US rights after Nickelodeon, it’d be safe to assume we’ll see season 2 available by the close of 2022 or early 2023.
