Season 2 of The End of the F***ing World is another huge success. Where does this series go next? Sadly, it looks like we aren’t going to see any future seasons, so here’s why The End of the F***ing World isn’t returning for season 3.
The End of the F***ing World, a British drama-drama series that mixes dark comedy and humor is based on Charles Forman's graphic novel. Charlie Covell is the series' creator. He previously played an actress on popular British comedy shows like The Inbetweeners and Peep Show. Netflix ordered Kaos by Charlie Covell after The End of the F***ing World was a huge success. It will feature ten episodes and be a reimagining Greek Mythology.
Is it possible to have too many good things? It's possible, particularly for TV shows that transcend a natural ending. That’s the sentiment shared by The End of the F*** World creator Charlie Covell.
Multiple news sources have shared Covell’s thoughts on a third season, but her thoughts on the future of the series came from an interview with the Radio Times:
I think, for me, that’s it now. Yeah, that’s done. I think to try and eke more out would be wrong, I like where we’ve left it.
Put it this way, if for some reason we hadn’t been allowed to do season two, I would have been really gutted. Which I think shows that it was the right thing to do – for me, anyway. And I think I like where we end it [in season two], and yeah, it feels right for the story.
But you never know, and you obviously you can’t write for what people want,” she adds. “I think you have to work out what’s right for the characters and the story— I sound like such a d*** saying that but I think you can’t, you’re not doing fan fiction.
Thanks to the interview with Charlie Covell, it’s been made clear that a third season isn’t happening.
Fans may want to see more of James and Alyssa. This is normal. However, the ending was sweet.
It may be more harm than good to delve into the relationships between the two of them. Alyssa finally admitted her feelings to James. James was excited, but she also acknowledged that they need time before their relationship blossoms.
James’ story has also come full circle. After spending much of his time spent distant from his humanity, it’s thanks to Alyssa that he was able to reclaim it back. With James finally able to move on with his life, reclaiming his humanity, and getting the girl, there isn’t much further to explore.
If the series were to continue, it’s hard to see where the story would pick up. To reiterate an earlier point, if the story were to focus on the pairs’ awkward relationship as a couple, it could do more harm than good. It could work if the right writer is involved, but we don't have the faith that Charlie Covell will be in charge.

Additional tweets indicate that there's a lot of demand for the third season. Fans will be able to go back and watch the series to their heart’s content, and of least the story has been consistent throughout. Alyssa & James wanted to finish the story on a positive note.
The second season will not be available to subscribers in the UK until 2020.
For now, the series will be available to stream on Channel 4’s streaming service.
End of Official Renewal Status (Last Updated on 15/11/2019).
With Charlie Covell making it clear she’s done with the series, sadly The End of the F***ing World has come to an end.
