The Old Guard looks like it will be getting its long-rumored sequel in due course thanks to a myriad of reports surfacing confirming that it’s in active development and some early details on what it will cover. Here’s what we know so far about The Old Guard 2.

For those who are not familiar with The Old Guard, here's a quick overview. This was among the action-oriented movies Netflix released in 2020. On July 10, 2020, it was released by Netflix.

This superhero film was based on the comics with the same title and featured Charlize Thon, KiKi Laine, and Matthias Schoenaerts. The movie follows an elite group of immortal mercenaries, who have found one another throughout history, and fight to hide their identities.

The movie currently ranks among the 10 most watched movies on Netflix, according to publicly released viewership statistics. It was viewed by 78 million people within its first month.

Netflix is streaming The Old Guard 2?

According to multiple reports, yes. Netflix still has not officially announced a second movie.

This news is not surprising considering the film's success on Netflix. The director of The Old Guard, Gina Prince Bythewood did initially state that The Old Guard was a trilogy.

“I know that Greg Rucka, who wrote the graphic novel in the script, he always envisioned this as a trilogy. I know where the story goes, and it’s pretty great. So if the audience is eager for it, there’s definitely more stories to tell.”

A sequel wasn't yet being developed, according to another source:

“There have been discussions, nothing is confirmed, and I don’t think there will be a decision made as to whether or not another one is in the offering for a while yet.”

Now, a number of reports seemingly confirm the greenlighting of the sequel to The Old Guard and we’ve now heard of even more information that suggests a sequel is in the works.

We know very little about The Old Guard 2.

ProductionWeekly issues 1231 and 1231 have a production report that names the sequel The Old Guard Chapter 2: Force Multiplied. Charlize Thon and KiKi Lynn are included in the casting, with Gina Prince Bythewood set for both writing and directing roles.

For fans of the comic, you’ll recognize the title from the second novel that shares the same name. While the original movie only covered five issues, any sequel will cover the entire 2019 edition.

Was there anything new in The Old Guard 2?

An attached production listing also included a logline that describes the content of the next movie.

“Andromache of Scythia and her band of soldiers are back in this second story chronicling the battles and burdens of their dubious immortality. Nile’s addition to the team has given them new purpose and new direction, but when you’ve got 6,000 years of history at your back, the past is always ready to return—with a vengeance.”

Booker is expelled by the film's team. However, the credits show that Quynh meets him and he was able to free himself from the trap at the bottom.

Their relationship as the original two immortals was teased by Theron on Seth Meyer’s talk show where she said:

“Yeah with another female character which I’m really excited about. The character of Quynh is kind of teased in this. She’s Andy’s kind of right hand person. She was, the two of them, were the first. There’s obviously a relationship there that we didn’t really explore in this film. So, I’m excited if we get the chance to make another one, to explore that, because then we’re just adding another female into the mix, which I think will make it really interesting.”

That’s all we have, for now. We’ll keep you updated as and when we learn more about The Old Guard 2. Let us know if you’re excited for a sequel in the comments.
