‘The Politician’ Season 3: Has Netflix Renewed or Canceled in 2021?

It’s been over a year since the second season of the Ryan Murphy produced comedy-drama series The Politician was released on Netflix. If you’re wondering whether the series has been renewed or canceled, we’ve got bad news. It’s essentially in limbo however we’re not currently expecting it to return.

This political comedy is the first Ryan Murphy-produced title to be available on Netflix, and it's the second to have his participation from 20th Television.

It’s worth noting that Netflix never officially renewed The Politician for a second season. Instead, it was sold with two seasons upfront to Netflix in response to intense bidding.

It was nominated for a variety of awards, including five Primetime Emmy Award nominations. In addition, the series does hold a respectable 7.5 on IMDb however that’s only on 19k reviews.

Season 2 came out after Season 10 debuted in March 2020. It spent only 6 days among the Top 10s in America, but spent 23 days among the Top 10s in Russia or Ukraine.

Is the Politician Renewing or Cancelled?

Often, a bad sign is checking out the accounts on social media for the show. The Instagram account for The Politician has not been active since August, when they published about Ratched's arrival on Netflix. The Politician's last posting was in July 2020.

The possibility that The Politician may be delayed due to multiple projects being worked on by the creators could indicate that The Politician is now back in production. Ryan Murphy produces a variety of Netflix Originals. Ian Brennan, who serves as lead writer on Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, is currently at work.

Ben Platt has many other projects at the moment. His next feature film, Merrily We Rock Along with The People That Hate At the Wedding is also due soon. That’s in addition to his projects outside of Hollywood including his music work.

We will never get an official announcement. We’ll have to wait and see. There are a huge number of shows yet to get any kind of announcement and instead we simply refer to them as “ghost canceled”. The Politician may be on this list.

Murphy expressed his desire to continue with the third season, saying:

“”I would like to do, and I think all of us involved in it would probably like to do three seasons total.”

The Politician Season 3: What can you expect?

Season 2 ended on a cliffhanger, which leads directly into the next season.

Payton would be almost certain to target a higher office after New York is over.

The second season concluded 2 years after its main events. He reflected on his achievements.

DigitalSpy interviewed Theo Germaine shortly after the release of season 2. They were asked their thoughts on a third season.

“I’m definitely interested in what his love life is. That’s definitely a big thing for me. I think it’s interesting because the character and I have the same gender identity, but it’s not a topic in the show, which continues to be a huge relief, because even I get tired of talking about gender all the time.

So I think it would be exciting to see more of his backstory, and what more of his emotional life is. That’s the stuff that I’m interested in. I want to know who’s dating who!”

As Elle notes, Payton’s friends are all still close meaning we’d expect to see most of the cast return for any third season.
