We reported in February 2021 that Netflix had won the bid war for Wednesday's Addams Family TV Show, directed by Tim Burton. In February 2022, filming ceased and the show is now in post production. Arriving in Fall 2022, we’re also keeping track of everything else you need to know about Wednesday, including the plot, casting news production updates, and the eventual Netflix release date.
The upcoming Netflix Original Family Fantasy Show Wednesday will be directed by Tim Burton. Netflix was the winner of the global exclusive distribution rights. It beat all other competitors in the bidding battle for the show. Al Gough, Miles Millar and Miles Millar are the creators of this series.
MGM TV has been confirmed as the production studio responsible for Wednesday's development. Burton will be serving as both an executive producer and director. Burton will be accompanied on the Original by Jon Glickman and Andrew Mittman.
The release of Wednesday will mark a special occasion in Tim Burton’s career as the show will be his TV directorial debut.
Netflix revealed the loglines of the series on its website:
Wednesday Addams misadventures as a student at Nevermore Academy: a very unique boarding school snuggled in deepest New England.
Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.
An even larger summary of Wednesday's events has been also reported.
After getting kicked out of eight schools in Five years, Willa aka Wednesday Adams is beginning a new chapter of her life at the academy, the two century old boarding school attended by her parents. However, Willa wants nothing to do with their alma mater and she’s already planning her escape. But this academy is like no other school she’s ever attended. It’s a school of outcasts with four main cliques, the Fangs (vampires) the Furs (werewolves), the Scales (sirens) and the Stoners. It is also a piece of the mystery that holds dark secrets about her family’s past.
The Wednesday series will debut on Netflix Fall 2022, as expected. An exact release date has yet to be revealed, however, it’s our expectation that Wednesday will be part of Netflix’s Halloween 2022 line-up.
Wednesday Addams' role has been finally revealed. Jenna Ortega will take on this iconic role, which Netflix subscribers are sure to recognize.
Ortega has appeared in numerous Originals on Netflix. Her most well-known roles include Ellie, in The Babysitter: Killer Queen's second season, and Katie Torres, in Yes Day. In the Jurassic World animated series Camp Cretaceous, she voices Brooklyn.
Outside of Netflix, Ortega has also featured in popular titles such as Disney’s Elena of Avalor, The CW’s Jane the Virgin, and the MCU movie Iron Man 3.
During Netflix’s Geeked Week event we finally received our first look at Jenna Ortega in full as Wednesday Addams! Ortega will be seen in action by Addams Family fans old and new.

Although it took us a while to get our Morticia Addams and Gomez Addams casting in, we are now ready for Wednesday. Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones will be taking on the iconic role of Morticia Addams, and Luis Guzmán will be playing her on-screen husband Gomez Addams.
In the Wednesday series, all remaining lead and supporting cast members were also cast.
