Upcoming Netflix Shows To Rival ‘Game of Thrones’

Game of Thrones has been a huge success and will probably never go away. That’s not to say that it can’t happen and Netflix is certainly going to try. These are the five shows Netflix may be able to win with their upcoming series.

Of course, Game of Thrones isn’t on Netflix and while there are some alternatives, nothing has come close to the scale of Game of Thrones.

Netflix offers many more shows than other streaming services, including some that could be comparable to Game of Thrones.

Amazon is putting big bets on its Lord of the Rings series spending upwards of a billion dollars and at the moment, the headline show for Disney+ seems to be ‘The Mandalorian’ but it’s yet to be seen the scope of how well that show could perform.

The Last Kingdom

Game of Thrones has always been popular but most would argue that the show didn’t hit its stride until its later seasons. That’s somewhat similar to The Last Kingdom which has slowly been growing over the seasons. It’s quickly become one of our favorite historical dramas on Netflix replacing the now-canceled Marco Polo which was designed to be the Game of Thrones killer.

Season 4 currently under production. It is expected to be released later in 2019.

The Chronicles of Narnia Netflix Series & Movies

Netflix has placed big bets on Narnia. Netflix has signed a deal to produce both TV and movies based on classic fantasy novels.

The three films were produced by Disney, but Netflix is able to produce content for all seven of its books. This is a new advantage.

You can expect epic battle scenes that have made Game of Thrones a hit, as well as fantastic character development.

No news of when we’ll actually see The Chronicles of Narnia hit Netflix although it’s not likely to be until 2020 at the earliest.

The Witcher TV Series

This series, once again, is inspired by a popular series of novels. The Witcher, which is available on Netflix, shares the same genre as Game of Thrones but has a much larger budget.

Geralt of Rivia is a monster hunter with special abilities. It’s got the potential thanks to a captive audience and some big-name stars involved such as Henry Cavill, Freya Allan, and Anya Chalotra.

Filming is currently underway and the show will be released in late 2019.

Avatar of The Last Airbender

Although the movie was a failure, Nickelodeon's animated series Avatar The Last Airbender continues to be incredibly popular.

Although this series will likely be lighter than Game of Thrones, it still features many of GoT's fantasy elements as well as some amazing character designs and action sequences.

It is anticipated that the series will be released sometime in 2020.

While there are many other series of fantasy planned for the future, these are the most anticipated in the coming years.
