Gotham is long gone from our screens. The fifth and last season aired back in 2019, but the series has been available on Netflix since that time. These days are over, with Gotham being the next Netflix region. Other regions will follow in July 2022. Here’s when we’re expecting Gotham to leave Netflix where you live.
Bruno Heller created Gotham, a prequel Batman series. It primarily followed James Gordon's rise through Gotham PD and witnessed some of the villains origin stories.
Although the series was produced by Warner Bros. Television, it aired in America on Fox. Netflix purchased the globally streaming rights where they’ve been exclusive in most regions since 2015 but that’s soon coming to an end.
With a notice on Netflix now in the United Kingdom, the removal notice for the first domino is appearing to be falling in July 2022.
The notice (embedded below) states that you “Last day to watch on Netflix” is July 23rd which means its actual removal is on July 24th.
July 24th is significant because that’s when season 5 was added to Netflix in the United Kingdom. This suggests that Netflix will keep the show for at least three more years in all international territories after the release of season 5.
According to our intelligence, Gotham will leave Netflix September 2022, based on the fact that, just like the UK's final season, it aligns three years after being added to Netflix.
For those that don’t know, Netflix US has carried the show since season 1 in 2015 with new seasons being added annually.
Netflix will end the fifth season in its entirety on September 30, 2022. The last episode was uploaded on September 30, 2019.
For those in Australia, you’ve been slowly losing Gotham since last year. In 2021, Season 1 was taken away and you have seen seasons 2 through 4. Then you were left with season 5, which you are now left with only 5.
If you’re in Canada, you’ll hold onto Gotham for a bit longer than previously mentioned regions with it not due to expire until January 2023.
According to Unogs, the series is streaming in most regions around the world and in all instances, we’d expect the show to have departed all regions by the end of 2023.
Warner Bros. Television is taking back the license to the show (it’s not Fox’s license) and therefore it’s up to their discretion as to where it heads next.
It could be sold to another streamer but in most regions around the world we think they’ll be keeping the license to add to their HBO Max service. You may already know that HBO Max will be the only home for all DC news moving forward.
Netflix in the US still gets annual additions of The Flash and international regions of Netflix still get new seasons of Titans plus you’ve got Sweet Tooth and The Sandman exclusively on Netflix globally but beyond that, all things DC are on HBO Max or will be eventually.
