Season 5 of ‘Dragons: Race to the Edge‘ has just released and we’re sure that many avid fans have already got stuck in to find out what’s next for Hiccup and the other Dragon Riders. We will cover the history of the series and when season 6 is expected to be released.

The franchise first debuted back in 2010 with the release of the film ‘How to Train Your Dragon‘ and its sequel four years later. Both films received large critical acclaim and were huge box-office successes. After this success, the ‘Dragons‘ universe was expanded significantly, and along with four short films, two video games and a live show, the ‘Race to the Edge’ series was born (Initially on Cartoon Network).

For the people who have only watched the films, ‘Dragons: Race to the Edge’ continues following the adventures of the young Viking boy Hiccup and his trusting dragon companion Toothless. Along with the other Dragon Riders, they must fend off the deadly Dragon Hunters lead by ‘Dagur the Deranged’. The show begins with our hero’s discovering a mysterious artefact named ‘The Dragon Eye’, which could open a passage to a whole new world of Dragons.

The first season released back in August of 2012 on Cartoon Network and was actually titled Dragons: Riders of Berk, not Race to the Edge. Netflix renamed the show after it was finished with its second season.

Season 5 introduced a whole new villain to oppose Hiccup and the Dragon Riders, he uses his own dragons in an attempt to steal the precious artefact and lenses from them, in order to use them for evil. Season 5 was a disappointing finale. Many fans are already looking forward to season 6. Unfortunately, the release date of season 6 has not been confirmed yet, but we do know that it will be the final season.

Especially for an animated show, the seasons have quite a fast turn around, there is usually only about a 6 month between each season. We have estimated that the sixth season will release around February/March. We will make sure to update this article with any further news and confirmations when we receive them.

Are you able to watch all five seasons? Did you enjoy it? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments section below.
