While The Kindergarten Teacher was available on Netflix last week in the United States and Canada, it has not yet been made available on any other Netflix territories. Here’s a look at why it’s not yet available and when it could be available.
Despite being widely known as a Netflix Original movie, that’s not entirely the case with The Kindergarten Teacher. Multiple outlets, including the likes of The Hollywood Reporter, have incorrectly attributed the show being fully under Netflix’s control.
Netflix has made it more difficult to distribute its movies in 2018, opting for multiple distribution methods and acquiring movies through different channels. Netflix is the only distributor for Canada and the United States. The first time this was reported by Netflix, it was in a press release.
The film has been getting very positive reviews from critics and has a fantastic cast, so you’re probably wondering why it might not be on Netflix yet if you’re in another region like the United Kingdom or Australia, for example.
We’ve reached out to multiple distributors and production companies behind the movie with mixed success. Protagonist Pictures handles international distribution outside the USA and Canada.
In the United Kingdom, the distribution rights have been acquired by ThunderbirdReleasing. In a post on social media on October 15th, they tweeted that the movie will be landing in multiple theatres on October 19th, 2018.
According to the website of the distributor, a February 8th cinema release is planned.
Distributors in every region will ultimately answer that question. You might be surprised to learn that the film will only release in limited theaters by the end of 2018 or the beginning 2019 and then go on-demand via Netflix.
