Fans of historical dramas like The Crown will have loved one of Netflix’s latest Originals The Last Czars. People may wonder if there will be more after a great first season, which educated and entertained in a natural way. Unfortunately, it’s best not to get your hopes up for a second season, here’s why.

Nutopia created The Last Czars, a Netflix Original Docudrama. We are treated to both the best and worst of both worlds through the eyes of a megadoc. With detailed accounts and fantastic drama we’re given an in-depth look that into what came before, during and after the dynasty of the Romanovs.

Once the most powerful family in Russia’s history, the Romanov’s ruled for over three hundred years as the Czars of the Russian Empire. Discord arose among the people at the beginning of the 20th century. While the Czars enjoyed a life of prosperity and health, the majority of citizens were poor and lived in poverty. The Bolsheviks, who eventually overtook the Czars' throne and opened the door to communist Russia, were the result.

Netflix Status Renewal by the Last Czars

Netflix Official Renewal Status Pending (Last Modified: 04/07/2019).

The Last Czars currently has a rating of pending and its future is still unknown. Netflix usually takes up to one month for any renewal news, but shows sometimes go months without an update.

Because of the historical story endings about the Romanovs, The Last Czars will not receive another season. Unless the series were to go into even further detail on the Bolsheviks and the founding of the Soviet Union then don’t expect any further seasons.

Nutopia is also working with Netflix on a 12 part docu-series at the time this article was written.

Netflix could create Docu-Drama series anthology?

The history of humanity can be traced back to over 6000 years. Many have fallen to the winds of time, from dictators to powerful empires. With such a plethora of history to choose from, there’s certainly potential to turn the series into an anthology. An anthology series would be more focused on ending dynasties and kingdoms.

Here are a few of the periods in history that we believe deserve docu-drama.

  • The Last Huns – Empire of Attila the Hun
  • The Last Khans – Empire of Genghis Khan and his heirs
  • The Last Shoguns – Tokugawa Yoshinobu and the last of the samurai
  • The Last Emporer – Puyi the last Emporer of the Qing Dynasty
