Dreamworks is currently showing its latest new IP off in the form of Abominable, a new kid’s animated movie, in the theaters but will it be coming to Netflix? Unfortunetely, for those in the United States, it doesn’t look like it’ll be releasing as per previous Dreamworks movies.

This animated movie, which is the studio that created How to Train Your Dragon and Shrek, has had a great run in recent years.

Abominable tells the story of a mysterious yeti who returns home to his family. It’s been receiving great reviews with a 62 from critics and scoring a 7.3 on IMDb.

Is Abominable on Netflix USA?

Now let’s move onto the movies Netflix availability.

For a quick TL:DR, the answer is no, Abominable probably won’t be on Netflix anytime soon.

The Dreamworks films would normally be available on Netflix US within 6-9 months of their showing in theatres. This was on what’s called an output deal which means any new titles the studio produces, it comes to Netflix.

Hulu had snatched the Dreamworks deal earlier this year. This means Netflix bid and lost out on the contract or decided it wasn’t worth it.

How to Train Your Dragon 3 is the first film to be viewed on Hulu and not Netflix.

Netflix is carrying quite a few older Dreamworks titles around six years since their release. This is the only thing that has saved them. Turbo, which was released in 2013, is the most recent example.

Is Abominable coming to Netflix in other countries?

We have records that indicate Captain Underpants are available in Canada, Australia and Poland. This could suggest Abominable might be coming to Netflix in these countries in the next few years.

There’s still plenty of Dreamworks titles coming to Netflix however. Over the next few years, there’s plenty of new and returning series from its lineup including Fast and Furious, She-Ra, Wizards, and Jurassic Park
